Samantha Meeker, MPH, PhD

Equity Scholar

Dr. Meeker is the current AFHE Equity Scholar with the Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity. She holds a BA from the University of Richmond, an MPH from George Washington University, and a PhD in Population Health with a focus in Social Epidemiology and Research Methods from Northeastern University. Her dissertation research focused on vicarious trauma, PTSD, and ways that workplace supports impact worker health. While at Northeastern University, Samantha worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at Northeastern as part of the evaluation team for the Vicarious Trauma Response Initiative (VTRI), which provided training and technical assistance to 11 communities around the U.S. that sought to become vicarious trauma-informed communities. She is particularly interested in studying the role organizations play in preventing the negative impacts of vicarious trauma including secondary traumatic stress, burnout, and the interactions between moral injury and vicarious trauma.
