Bio

Brenda Hughes is the Manager of Community Engagement for the South Carolina Department of Health. She is responsible for implementing policy, systems and environmental change to advance health equity in rural populations. She serves in a leadership role in multiple coalitions and collaborations across the state to develop community capacity, build sustainable, equitable communities to address the root causes of the social determinants of health.

Previously, Brenda worked at Drexel University College of Medicine School to promote chronic disease prevention and health equity in underserved urban populations. Brenda holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from High Point University and a Master of Public Health from Drexel University.
