James Huang, MD, FAAFP
Family Medicine Physician
Bio
Dr. James Huang is a family medicine physician. After graduating from the Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont, he completed his Social and Family Medicine Residency at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, NY, where he also served as chief resident. Currently, as the director of Student Health Service at Gallaudet University, he oversees the healthcare delivery to the students on campus, which includes the Clerc Center, which operates Kendall Demonstration Elementary School (KDES) and Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD). He aims to increase health literacy and knowledge for the students and the larger Deaf community. He has helped organize several workshops focusing on reproductive health and partnered with campus organizations to talk about sexual health, HIV awareness, and gender-affirming care.
Before joining Gallaudet University, he worked at Unity Health Care, a federally qualified health center (FQHC). There, he started the Comprehensive Medical Care for Deaf Adults and Children (CODA Clinic), which focused on providing accessible healthcare to the hard of hearing and deaf community. He enjoys teaching medical learners and continues to precept family medicine residents at Unity.
James is proud to provide high-quality, evidence-based care in a patient-centered manner. He is committed to working towards health equity for all and has lectured locally and nationally on various topics, from deaf health equity to Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV. In addition to his clinical and administrative work, he is a member of the Commission on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (CDEI) at the AAFP, and an active member of the DC AFP.
