Tyler Spencer, MSc, PhD
Tyler Spencer is the Founder and President of The Grassroot Project (TGP), a community-based nonprofit organization that trains NCAA student-athletes to provide health education and health services for teenagers in Washington, DC. TGP began in 2009 as a small student-run organization, but it has grown significantly over the past decade. To date, the organization has trained more than 1,000 college athletes to provide health programs to 5,000 teens in 60 DC public and charter schools. For its innovation and results, TGP has been recognized by the World Economic Forum in Davos, the Clinton Global Initiative, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Tyler holds an MSc and a PhD in Public Health from the University of Oxford, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar. His academic research has focused on measuring the effectiveness of social interventions and on analyzing the organizational development strategies of youth-led HIV/AIDS organizations.
