The Mid Year Convening offers fellows an immersive opportunity to explore health equity and leadership in Ghana. Through site visits, engagement with local leaders and communities, and structured learning sessions, Fellows will deepen their understanding of health systems, policies, and community-driven initiatives. This experience enables Fellows to compare health equity approaches across diverse contexts and apply key insights to their ongoing projects, leadership practice, and advocacy efforts.
Convening FAQs
Fellows are responsible for any costs associated with their travel and accommodations. PLEASE NOTE: Ensign Global University, where the convening will primarily take place, is ~80-90 km away from Accra, Ghana. Fellows will be staying in dorms at the University during the convening and, due to limited space there, guests are not allowed to stay with them in those accommodations. Fellows may book separate accommodations for guest(s) in Accra, but fellows will be moving around throughout the convening week for site visits and overnight stays. Given this, AFHE does not recommend guests join fellows’ travels for the Mid-Year Convening. However, if a fellow still prefers guest(s) to join them in Accra, fellows are responsible for any related travel and accommodation costs.

Please note, if you cancel your trip after stipends have been issued, you are responsible for paying the funds back to The George Washington University. International fellows will be asked to wire the funds back. U.S. fellows will need to transfer the funds back or mail a check payable to The George Washington University. We recommend you first talk with the airline agent at the gate for fastest assistance if you need to rebook a flight.
