AFHE Convening on Displacement & Health
Thessaloniki, Greece
September 19 -23, 2022
Through a social justice lens, Senior Atlantic Fellows for Health Equity examined the disparities in global responses to forcibly displaced peoples’ experiences. They examined the historical and political legacies that shaped these responses, and learned about the human cost and impact on millions of lives.
Using Greece as “the refugee gateway to Europe,” Senior Fellows explored the ways forcibly displaced peoples’ human rights are impacted by selective empathy, political favoritism and systemic racism. Fellows also examined the effects of forced displacement on the psychological and physiological health of refugees and share approaches that promote good health and healing within displaced communities.
In the course of this convening, Senior Fellows connected to the human stories and inequities experienced by forcibly displaced groups and take affirmative action in their respective fields.
