Stockholm and Luleå, Sweden
May 17-23, 2026
The 2026 AFHE Thematic Convening in Sweden centered on sustainability, innovation and collaboration. Sweden provided a compelling setting for this exploration, widely recognized for its global leadership in gender equality, universal healthcare, climate innovation, and inclusive approaches to community development.
In Stockholm, participants engage with themes such as gender equity, refugee and migrant health, and universal healthcare, as well as innovations in technology that support these priorities. The program also took participants to the north of Sweden, where we explored healthcare delivery in remote regions and strategies for community-building in sparsely populated areas.
Through site visits, discussions, and dialogue with local leaders, fellows gained valuable insights into Nordic approaches to sustainability and equity while considering how these lessons can inform their own contexts.
