Ana Ortega holds a B.A. in psychology and an MSc. in international development. She currently works as a Mental Health Coordinator with Compañeros en Salud (CES), the sister organization of Partners in Health, in the mountains of Chiapas, Mexico. In this role, she oversees the work of community mental health workers and psychologists. In this program, community mental health workers are trained to deliver evidence-based psychological interventions, in collaboration with health professionals (physicians, nurses, and midwives) who are also capacitated to provide mental health care in rural clinics. Furthermore, she co-created with the community mental health workers “women’s circles” – mental health groups with a gender perspective, that are based on restorative practices.

Ana has extensive experience practicing mental health care from a feminist lens and caring for survivors of gender-based violence. In the past, Ana has also been involved in agroecology and food sovereignty projects.
