Kevin Heckman (2020 cohort) helped evaluate the American Medical Association’s Innovation Grant Program, which funds new approaches to medical education. His team reviewed 27 completed projects from the program’s first two years and found that 15 produced shareable curricula, assessment tools, or teaching modules, while 15 were presented at national conferences. The findings offer a practical lesson for supporting innovation: funding can help educators develop new approaches, but sharing and evaluating those innovations is key to helping them spread.
