Dr. Nonsikelelo Mathe is a public health scientist and healthcare entrepreneur whose research focuses on understanding the relationships between lifestyle and risk for chronic diseases such as diabetes. Dr Mathe has worked with different populations globally, including adults in the UK, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Kenya, Indigenous Canadians and women who previously had gestational diabetes in pregnancy. More recently her research has expanded to include understanding Health system interactions for autistic individuals. As an entrepreneur she supports families of autistic and neurodiverse children and youth, to build independence and life skills.Currently, Nonsikelelo is the Scientific Director for the Physician Learning Program in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Alberta. She leads a team that uses advanced data analytics to transform administrative healthcare data into clinically actionable information that helps physicians and their teams advance practice. Moreover, these data are utilized to identify gaps in the health system, illuminate inequalities and develop evidence-based solutions of significant impact in healthcare settings.
