Bio

Dr. Alaq Al-Muwali is a medical doctor from Baghdad, Iraq, with a Master’s in Global Health from King’s College London. Her work is dedicated to health equity, social justice, and the intersection of medicine and narrative. She has led and contributed to initiatives focused on youth development, women’s health, and the rights of internally displaced persons, working with organisations such as IFMSA-Iraq, UNDP Iraq, PartnersGlobal, and Health Poverty Action.

Now based in London, UK, Dr. Al-Muwali practices as a portfolio doctor in the NHS while actively engaging in research and creative projects that harness storytelling to advance global health equity. She is currently writing a book exploring themes of medical education in Iraq, drawing on her firsthand insights into healthcare in conflict-affected settings. She is particularly interested in the role of narrative medicine in shaping policy, improving healthcare delivery, and amplifying marginalised voices. With deep expertise in the Middle East, she welcomes opportunities for research and cross-disciplinary collaborations that drive meaningful change in health systems and social determinants of health.
