Bio

Dr. Ali Alshalah is a public health practitioner from Iraq. He is currently leading the national program for measles and rubella at the Communicable Diseases Control Center/ Iraqi Ministry of Health. He has been working on building subnational capacities and addressing data gaps in resource-limited and rural areas. He is also part of the core team to launch DHIS2 which will digitalize infectious disease surveillance nationwide.

Ali is particularly interested in promoting data and evidence use for health equity. He conducted and published research in academic journals such as BMJ Global Health and PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases.

Before that, Ali worked in rural settings where he aimed to incorporate societal and cultural ethos into health messages and services. Ali holds a master's degree in Public Health for Development from London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Iraq.
