Bio
Brandi Payton, MHA, BSN, RN, NEA-BC, FACHE, is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. She is also of Cheyenne, Arapaho and Hopi descent. She is a registered nurse by training and currently serves as the Clinic Administrator of the Cherokee Nation Cooweescoowee Health Center which she helped open in 2015. Before this new facility, Indigenous people in this area commuted over an hour to seek some medical services. In 2016, Brandi completed the Native Graduate Health Fellowship at the National Congress of American Indians in Washington, D.C. and focused on formulating and promoting health policies and practices that address the unique needs of American Indians.In 2019, Brandi was selected to be an Atlantic Fellow for Health Equity based at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. focused on addressing health disparities through exposure to content experts and visits to programs and institutions pioneering positive change around the world, as well as through extensive leadership development training. Brandi enjoys using her time to help build strong Indigenous communities. Professionally, she is most proud of establishing and promoting strong collegial relationships within her interdisciplinary health setting, as well as within other professional and community settings. She considers it a privilege to be a part of these teams and enjoys working together to build organizations and communities that are committed to service and health equity.
Brandi is currently finishing her Doctorate in Health Care Administration at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences and is set to graduate in May 2025. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration from Oklahoma State University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Oklahoma.
