Maria Portela Martinez, MD, MPH
Maria Portela Martinez is the chief of the Medical Training and Geriatrics Branch at the Bureau of Health Workforce at the Health Resources Services Administration. She also currently sees patients at Unity Health Care, a Federally Qualified Health Center in Washington, DC. In 2014, Dr. Portela Martinez completed the Mongan Commonwealth Fund Fellowship in Minority Health Policy at Harvard focused on vulnerable populations. Previously, she completed training in family medicine at Duke Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. In 2010, she shared in the development of an assessment on the health and education sectors for President Obama’s taskforce on Puerto Rico’s economic development. Dr. Portela Martinez is passionate about increasing access and quality of health care services to vulnerable populations.
Focus: Leading efforts to re-envision primary care training focused on transforming health care delivery systems aimed at improving access, quality of care, and cost-effectiveness for vulnerable populations.
