Bio
Dr. Liam C. Hein is an Associate Professor of Nursing at the University of South Carolina (USC) and Director of the Faculty Fellow and Pipeline Programs. He is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, where he chaired several committees, and currently serves on the Fellow Selection Committee. Liam was on the team that wrote the 2025 Code of Ethics for Nurses. He serves on the Advisory Board for Ethics and Human Rights of the American Nurses Association. He is a former board member of GLMA: Health Professionals Advancing LGBT Equality; and of OutCare Health. Liam has been actively involved in faculty governance, chaired two USC Faculty Senate committees and is Chair-elect of the Faculty Senate.Liam’s work focuses on improving LGBTQ health equity through education, advocacy, and health policy. He is currently interested in transgender elders amidst current state-level legislative restrictions. He completed his graduate study at Vanderbilt, and a post-doc in Health Disparities in Underserved Populations at the University of Illinois, Chicago. He is a fellow in the 2024/2025 SEC Academic Leadership Development Program.
